I am so excited!! This will be my first gluten free expo since being diagnosed with Celiac Disease last year. Since I live just two hours south of St. Pete, I just have to be there! Life after my diagnosis has been a major learning experience and to be honest, it has been very challenging. I look so forward to being able to learn more from others who have been dealing with this lifestyle for a longer period of time than I have. Here are the details:
Gluten-Free for Life Expo
March 28, 2015
11:00 am – 4:00 pm
St. Petersburg Coliseum
535 Fourth Avenue North
St. Petersburg, FL 33701
Tickets – $10.00
Children under 12 are free
In my regular life, going out and especially eating out, makes me feel like I’m playing a very risky and dangerous game of cross-contamination. I always have to wonder; Will I get sick tonight? Should I really eat this? So it will be really nice to let my guard down and feel free and able to eat in a safe environment.
The 4th annual Gluten Free For Life Expo hosted by Gluten-Free in Florida Support Group is a great event for anyone dealing with Celiac Disease, Gluten Intolerance or Gluten Sensitivity. It is also great for those who have family members that suffer from these issues since naturally, this lifestyle does affect everyone in the family. You will be able to:
- Sample and buy safe, gluten free products from over 60 vendors
- Learn from the highly experienced guest speakers
- Connect with others who are dealing with the same issues
- Enter to win several GF prize packages
- Eat a Gluten Free lunch for $5.00
- Donate non-perishable GF foods to restock the Gluten Free Emergency Food Pantry
What Will There Be For Teens and Children?
In addition to all of the great gluten free foods to try and buy, there will be allergy free face painting! The $10 ticket cost is taken at the door and goes to benefit Camp Weekaneatit, a week-long summer camp for children (ages 8-17) with Gluten Intolerance or Celiac. Learn more about this for your child at the event!
There will also be a “Teens Table” where you can speak with and get to know other young ones that are currently dealing with these challenges. They will be offering many donated items to taste and purchase for $1.00 or $5.00 donation.
What If I Don’t Live In St. Petersburg?
If you are like me and you live just a few hours away, you may choose to make a mini vacation out of it and stay in a hotel. The Expo’s official website has a lodging list of hotels as well as a list of safe places to eat in the area. I would suggest making your hotel reservations ASAP since it will be around Spring Break time and may be difficult to find something last minute.
If you live out of state, Gluten-Free For Life has also provided a list of other GF events taking place around the United States and Canada.

Will You Be There Too?
One of the main reasons that I’m so excited to be at this event is to be able to reach out and meet other people that understand the daily struggle of living with Celiac Disease. I look forward to meeting others and learning from their experiences… the good, the bad and the ugly. I also look forward to building my own resources, finding new snack items, recipes, meal ideas and ways to live and eat safely.
Without the resources that I have been able to gather over the past few years, I would probably still be extremely sick and undiagnosed. I absolutely would have never been able to figure out how to do this on my own.
Promoting awareness of this disease is so important to me. The vast majority of people that have Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance have NO IDEA! It’s so scary! So many other conditions like Cancer, Diabetes, Hyperthyroidism, IBS, Autism, Arthritis, Depression, Infertility, Migraines, Anxiety, Acne, Eczema along with many many other serious conditions can be caused or triggered by Celiac Disease, especially when left unchecked.
After the event, I will be posting a follow-up to share my experiences and photos from the day. I hope to see you there!
